CULT11017 Society and Environment
This course is recommended especially for Education students
studying in the learning area of Society and Environment. It functions
as an introduction to this area, and also as an introduction for
those students taking the Society and Environment plan as part of their
education programs. The course will enable students, in an introductory
way, to identify the ways both primary and secondary evidence influence
the development of ideas from ancient to modern times, and explore
how an evaluation of historical accounts reflects the culture in
which they were constructed; to articulate the impact of change
on environments, the relationships in and between natural systems,
and future environmental issues; to understand the relationship
between social and ecological systems; to identify the cultural
significance of place, and the way that various cultures inhibit
or promote diversity; and to articulate issues related to social
justice and the democratic process, and paradigms of power that govern
these issues.
