the Pacific Rim
The course will identify the development of HRM
in organisations in each of the countries under scrutiny. By utilising
various conceptual frameworks, students will have the opportunity
to compare, contrast and integrate the patterns of HRM practice
in significant countries of the Pacific Rim. HRM institutions, practices
and attitudes will be explored in the countries of Australia, China,
Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore,
Taiwan and Thailand. The role of HR managers and HR knowledge in
the administration of the organisations' internal labour
markets will be scrutinised. Likely future developments in HRM in
each of these countries will also be examined. Skills developed
in this course will benefit those with responsibility for developing
policies and strategies for Human Resources in the global marketplace.
