In this course the theoretical foundations of economic development are examined and various models of development economics are explained and critically evaluated. Economic development strategies adopted by different countries are identified and their effectiveness evaluated in terms of the stated objectives. The determinants of economic development are analysed and barriers to successful development policy implementation are discussed in a comparative analysis framework. Finally, the export-led growth theory of economic development is discussed within the contemporary Asian context.
