Graduate Diploma of Psychology CU87

Duration: 6 terms full-time, 12 terms part-time.
Mode and Location: Internal - R, External, Multi-modal. It is a requirement of enrolment in the course that all students have access to the Internet. Students will be expected to undertake various components of study in the Diploma using e-mail and the Internet.
Fees: Full-fee-paying.

Entry: Direct.
Accreditation: TheGradDipPsych is fully accredited with the Australian Psychological society as a three-year undergraduate award in Psychology.
Residential School: 4 days prior to the commencement of PSYC13015 Advanced Methods in Psychology.

The Graduate Diploma of Psychology is designed for persons who already hold a degree from a recognised university to undertake in full, or complete, an accredited three-year undergraduate program in Psychology for the purpose of establishing their eligibility for entry into a four-year degree or postgraduate diploma program in Psychology.

Students who complete the Graduate Diploma will have broad knowledge of the discipline of Psychology and its applications, including major theoretical perspectives within the discipline. In addition, they will have knowledge of the range of core research areas that make up the scientific discipline of Psychology and of the research methodologies and statistical techniques commonly used by researchers for information gathering and analysis. They will be able to apply that knowledge when undertaking research activities in the core areas of scientific study.

Program Structure

To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 12 courses or 72 units of credit as outlined below. Students shall:

  • prior to enrolment in the award, hold a degree from a recognised university;
  • and obtain credit for a total of 72 units of credit (12 courses) including PSYC12035   and PSYC12036   from the table below in accordance with the following:
  1. at least 36 units of credit (six courses) shall be at Level 3, and include PSYC13015   Advanced Methods in Psychology; and
  2. except with the approval of the Head of School, all course prerequisites in Psychology shall be satisfied. The normal pattern of enrolment is 12 units of credit (two courses) at first level, 24 units of credit (four courses) at second level, and 36 units of credit (six courses) at third level.

Failure to satisfy these requirements will result in non-eligibility to graduate.

Recommended study schedules for this program can be obtained from your program administrator. Students may determine their own schedule based upon credit transfers and personal study requirements. It is important to note that full-time students usually enrol in four courses or 24 units of credit per term and part-time students usually enrol in two courses per term or 12 units of credit per term.

Application for Credit Transfer

Credit for, and exemption from, second and third level courses in Psychology will only be granted where the courses which form the basis of the credit application have been taken a part of a program of study in Pschology offered by an accredited Psychology academic organisati.onal unit. Students shall be eligible to apply for a maximum of 48 units of credit on that basis.
