Master of Electronic Commerce CU14

Duration: 2 years full-time.
Mode and Location: Internal - BIC/SIC/MIC/HK/SING, external.

Accreditation: Accreditation is being sought for professional membership of the Australian Computer Society.

Entry Requirement

Candidates must possess qualifications and experience, which are deemed equivalent to:

  • a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification from an Australian university or college together with at least 2 years of relevant communication or information technology/information systems experience or
  • an honours degree in communication or information technology/information systems from an Australian university or college or
  • a bachelor’s degree and a Graduate Diploma in communication or information technology/information systems from an Australian university or college or equivalent qualification

Candidates must complete CQU admission form(s) for admission assessment, in conjunction with the above entry requirement.

Program Objectives

The Master of Electronic Commerce offers the flexibility for students to tailor their study to meet their individual needs.

The multidisciplinary focus of the degree will develop technical, creative and management knowledge and skills that can be utilised in various aspects of electronic commerce: electronic publishing, information provision, data communications, design and development of multimedia systems, networking, marketing, advertising, change management, education and training.

The Master of Electronic Commerce program is designed to provide students with:

A knowledge of:

  • the current Internet environment and future directions;
  • theories and practices appropriate for electronic commerce;
  • project management and change management.

An understanding of:

  • the role of electronic commerce in modern society;
  • the social, political, economic and cultural significance of electronic commerce;
  • the professional ethical, legal, and security issues in electronic commerce.

The skills to:

  • communicate effectively with other professionals and the wider community in a culturally diverse environment;
  • communicate effectively utilising the Internet;
  • access, analyse, and evaluate information from a variety of sources;
  • solve problems and demonstrate creative thinking;
  • complete an electronic commerce project.

Program Structure

To obtain a Master of Electronic Commerce degree, a student must complete a total of 12 courses comprising:

ECOM20005   Electronic Commerce Project (equivalent to two courses) OR two courses selected from the list of elective courses and approved by the program coordinator.

Students may select any suitable course at postgraduate level with the approval of the program coordinator.

Notes:

^ These course cannot be taken by students who have an undergraduate degree in computing or information systems. They must be taken for the Graduate Diploma of Electronic Commerce and Master of Electronic Commerce by students who do not have an undergraduate degree in computing or information systems.
