SOCL19072 Criminality, Deviance & Social Control
Not offered in 2001
This course outlines how and why certain types of behaviour
come to be identified as bizarre, weird, deviant, unacceptable,
alien and so on, and how these behaviours become subject to social
control. In doing this, it explores the moral and political nature
of the defining process. It also focuses on the comparison of delinquency
with corporate crime, and examines drugs, sexual crimes, domestic
violence and prostitution. Most of all, it considers the relationship
between power and the labelling of some behaviours as socially unacceptable.
