MUSC12056  Materials of Music I

This course provides a practical and theoretical context for the study of materials of music (musical elements, forms and processes). The creative process of manipulating musical materials from a variety of sources (including art, popular, non-western music) is engaged with through improvisation, composition and performance. Issues emerging from social contexts of music are addressed (subjectivity, gender, identity).
