LOTE12005 Communication & Meaning
in a Second Language
This course further develops the skills and knowledge
gained in Effective Communication in a LOTE and Teaching Through
a LOTE. A major feature of this course is acquiring skills and knowledge
that will help prepare students for their visit to the target country
in the following term. The areas of life in the target country and
education in the target country are the major foci being addressed
through a range of activities taught through immersion techniques
throughout this course. The four skill areas of listening, speaking,
writing and reading are covered by 100 per cent usage of the Language
Other Than English. Opportunities for interaction with target language speakers
residing in the target country through various modes of technology
also provided in this course. Sociocultural issues are also a large
component focusing on the use of appropriate language by students
whilst in the target country.
