HLTH11005 Nursing Informatics
An integral component of nursing practice is
the processing and handling of data, information and knowledge from
which the nurse gains insight, foresight and wisdom needed to support
decision making. Information and telecommunication technologies
are increasingly being used by nurses to support these information
handling activities including evidence based practice. To carry
out their professional responsibilities, nurses need to be able
to use computers and associated technologies and apply other skills
which enable them to obtain, manage and use the desired data, information
or knowledge in a timely and effective fashion. This course incorporates
learning activities designed to introduce students to these technologies,
their use by nurses and enhance students information literacy
skills. Computer skills desirable.
