GEOH19004  Cultural & Political Geography of the Central & South Pacific Region

This course examines Australia’s Pacific neighbours - the island nations of the Central and South Pacific in the cultural areas of Melanesia, Polynesia and Micronesia. Topics will include the natural environment and resources, but with an emphasis on the culture and contemporary social, economic and political problems of the region. The roles of Australia, the United States, France and other ‘Great’ Powers in this area will be considered.
