The analysis and design of the fundamental elements of a basic bulk materials handling plant. Topics include - characteristics of bulk solids, flow properties of bulk solids, design of storage bins for desired flow parameters, wall loads due to stored material in bins, silos and hoppers, flow rate control by bin feeders. Conveyor design and analysis - belt conveyors, screw conveyors, vibratory conveyors. Pneumatic conveying of bulk solids. Stockpiling and reclaiming.
