EDSE20003 Secondary Science Education
I
Science in the lower secondary school is taught
as a multi-discipline subject. Therefore beginning science teachers
need to develop the skills required for teaching all strands of
science in a meaningful and effective way which caters for all learning
styles.
This course provides a guideline for teachers to use in the
science classroom. It explores the issues of curriculum, learning
theory, and learning difficulties. A specific focus is placed on
planning and preparation, classroom management, laboratory safety
and the development of a supportive learning environment within the
classroom. Effective Science education by teachers will enable students
to more actively participate and respond to future Science and Technology
discoveries throughout their lives.
