BMED19004  Endocrinology & Reproductive Physiology

The study of Endocrinology and Reproductive Physiology introduces the student to differentiation, anatomical organisation and development of endocrine systems; endocrine cells, endocrine control of cell function, cellular signal transduction pathways and control of gene expression; endocrine control of metabolism, growth, reproduction and behaviour; endocrine function during puberty, adulthood and aging; diagnosis of endocrine disorders and therapies; sexual differentiation and human sexuality; reproductive disorders and diseases; fertility control; assisted reproduction including ovum retrieval and invitro-fertilisation, gamete intra-fallopian tube transfer (GIFT) and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI); emerging complementary technologies including pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, gene therapy, transgenics, and cloning.Distance education students will be required to attend a residential school for this course.
