TOUR20005 Global Studies in Thematic Tourism
Globally, the tourism product is becoming increasingly differentiated
as a result of changing demand patterns and preferences of tourists.
Consequently, various thematic tourism products are emerging within
the global tourism scene. This course examines the current themes
such as special event tourism, the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences
and exhibitions) industry, cultural tourism and indigenous tourism.
The historical background of theme development, prevalent markets,
socio-cultural, environment and economic impacts, promotion and
emerging opportunities and future directions are considered. The
course enables students to engage in an independent research project relating
to one of the tourism themes.
