COIS20065 Scientific Information
Sources
A vital component of scientific communication
is the ability to identify sources of information on a subject that
is being researched and locate pertinent references. In this way
timely information can be shared with other researchers and released
to the public. Through the knowledge gained, students will be in
a position to substantially improve the quality of scientific communication.
They will be aware of the current limitations of information retrieval
systems and the advances that are being made with information technology.
The understanding of these issues will enhance the students ability
to accurately communicate scientific and technological information.
In addition, by conducting on-line searches in their chosen thesis
topic, they will develop a proposal and have a detailed understanding
of the literature in this domain.
