Certificate in Nursing Practice (Re-entry) CQ06

Duration: 1 term full-time, 1 year part-time.
Mode: External only.
Location(On-Campus): Not offered internally.
Courses/Units of Credit: 4 courses/24 units of credit, (including clinical requirement).
Faculty: Arts, Health & Sciences.
Entry: QTAC.
Accreditation: Depending on the state in which the clinical component is undertaken, graduates will be eligible for re-instatement to the State Register of Registered Nurses.
Practicum/Work Placement: Clinical requirement of 160 hours (4 weeks) minimum.
Residential School: Nil.

Program Overview

This certificate is designed to meet the needs of General Registered Nurses who have not practised for five years or more. The program will provide an update both in theory and clinical components of nursing practice.

Clinical Requirement

The length of clinical practice is determined by the student’s ability to meet ANCI competencies. The minimum clinical requirement is 160 hours. Students will be placed in clinical agencies as close to their residential community as possible.

When ready to complete the clinical portion of the program, a ‘preceptor’ will be assigned. The ‘preceptor’ is a Registered Nurse who will work in the clinical agency where you are completing the clinical part of the program. The ‘preceptor’ will be responsible for resources, and will evaluate your clinical performance.

Entry

Applicants must provide evidence of one of the following:

  • previous general nurse registration in the state in which they plan to undertake the clinical placement; or
  • a letter confirming their eligibility to register as a general nurse on completion of this program from the Queensland Nursing Council.

Potential students who are not currently registered should first contact the Queensland Nursing Council to determine the need for them to undertake a re-entry program.

Students gaining a grade point average of 5.0 will be given exemptions on entering the Bachelor of Health (Nursing) Post Registration. For students who do not meet the above requirement, they may enter the Bachelor of Health (Nursing) Post Registration and select to study elective courses in place of NURS10087  , NURS12097  .
