A candidate for this degree shall enrol initially in one of the Bachelor of Education programs and may, subject to satisfactory performance, be permitted to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Education (Honours) upon application to the Dean, Faculty of Education & Creative Arts. The aim of the Honours Year is to provide high achieving students from the first three years of a Bachelor of Education course (or its equivalent) the opportunity to pursue an area of knowledge through more focused study and research. The Bachelor of Education (Honours) provides a means for students to progress directly to higher degree research at masters or doctoral level. The course is equivalent to a fourth year of study and as such provides the basis for application for teacher registration. Prospective students who have completed at least an initial three year education award at another recognised university and who are eligible to apply for teacher registration, also may apply for entry to the Bachelor of Education (Hons). Program Structure
Students will be required to complete EDFE11013 Professional Practice IV as part of their Honours year in order that they will complete the required number of fieldwork days to satisfy the Board of Teacher Registration. Honours students, who are registered teachers, will be required to take an elective chosen from the CQ58 Bachelor of Education (Inservice) list of Term 1 courses to give them the required number of units of credit for graduation. Students are expected to maintain a level of Credit in all courses. The Honours Thesis will be assessed by 2 examiners appointed by the Dean, after consultation with the supervisor/s. The examination procedures for the Honours Thesis are the same as those adopted for the Master of Education Studies. Levels of HonoursHonours may be awarded at the levels of I, IIA, IIB, III or Fail.
