Program Overview

The purpose of an Honours program is to prepare talented students for future postgraduate study in a particular area and applications at Master’s or doctoral level. Its aims are to develop advanced knowledge in specialist areas of skills required for fundamental research and/or industrial applications.

Entry

This program is open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree from a recognised higher education institution and who have achieved at least a credit average (grade point average of at least 5.0) in the discipline area in which they intend to study for Honours. In psychology, students must have completed an accredited undergraduate psychology program. In sociology, students must have completed the required courses marked with an asterisk (*) in the Sociology Plan on BA or their equivalent.

Mid Year Intake & External

Students normally enrol in Autumn Term but in selected disciplines, students may enrol mid-year (Winter Term). Students may also undertake their Honours program externally (subject to supervision and availability of resources).The BA Honours in Psychology is accredited in the internal mode only.

The Honours program consists of 50 per cent (24 units of credit) coursework and 50 per cent (24 units of credit) dissertation. Coursework consists of 4 courses or equivalent based on assessment for each of not fewer than 5000 words or equivalent. The word length of the dissertation will be no fewer than 15 000 words, and no more than 25 000 words.
