The Masters Degree by Research is a program of supervised research and study leading to the submission of a thesis which makes a contribution to knowledge. The program is governed by the Rules for Masters Degrees by Research which provide details regarding all aspects of admission, progression, submission and examination of the thesis. Consultation with the Associate Dean (Research) of the appropriate faculty will assist applicants to determine eligibility for admission, to identify the proposed areas of research and to ascertain the availability of suitable supervisors. Applicants who do not satisfy any of the above criteria may be required to undertake a Masters qualifying/enabling program, normally of only one year's (full-time) duration, as specified in the University's resolution on Masters qualifying programs. Program StructureTo complete the program, a candidate will normally study for an expected period of 2 years (full-time) or 4 years (part-time). New candidates may enrol at any time of year and continuing candidates must re-enrol at the beginning of each academic year. The courses in which Masters students enrol are ungraded. The course codes are allocated according to the faculty in which the candidate is undertaking their research. The course codes will also identify whether the candidate is full-time ( code ending in digit 0) or part-time ( code ending in digit 1) and if the candidate is enrolled for only part of a year, ( code ending in digits 2 or 3). Candidates who may be required to complete prescribed courses should enrol in a separate program (CP20) by completing an additional enrolment form stating the courses to be undertaken.
