ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants currently practicing midwives:
- Holding Graduate Diploma of Midwifery or equivalent;
- Holding a Hospital Based Certificate in Midwifery with currency of practice and have gained Recognition of Prior Learning into the Program.
Please note that a university qualification is not required for entry into this program.
DURATION
2.5 years full-time consists of:
- Graduate Diploma of Midwifery 1.5 years
- Master 1 year (applicable to currently practising midwives holding a Certificate in Midwifery and have been granted Recognition of Prior Learning or Students holding Graduate Diploma or equivalent)
COURSES/UNITS OF CREDIT
13 courses/96 units of credit consist of:
- 10 x courses for Graduate Diploma Program
- 3 x courses for Master Program
CLINICAL PROJECT
80 hours of specialist clinical practice associated with MDWF29001
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Currently practising midwives who are holding Graduate Diploma must present a certified copy of their degree to be granted Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) into the program.
Currently practising midwives who hold a Hospital Based Certificate are encouraged to seek Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) into the program
All applicants in the Master program are to present the following documentation when seeking RPL:
- Curriculum vitae (to support application)
- Certified copies of Graduate Diploma in Midwifery OR Hospital registration training certificate (to support application)
- Copies of current registration practicing certificate (to support application)

Recognition of prior learning will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary study equivalent in content and depth to the CQUniversity program has been successfully completed. Students should examine the course synopses in the CQUniversity handbook to determine the courses from which they may be able to claim exemption. - Council for Rural and Remote Nurses website CRANA;
- Office of the Chief Nurse in Queensland (OCNO) and ask for the Midwifery Advisor regarding scholarship support
COMPUTING REQUIREMENTS
It is a requirement of enrolment in this program that students have access to the CQUniversity website. Students may be required to undertake various components of study in the program using email and the Internet.
It is strongly recommended that students have access to a broadband connection or higher to access online student resources that would include but not limited to, email, internet, video streaming, electronic assessment submission.
