ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be a registered nurse or registered midwife (seeking to upgrade) and hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are encouraged. Please contact the Program Head for further information.
Applicants may need to satisfy specified university and service provider requirements in relation to prior nursing experience in addition to National Police Check (not older than 3 years), Blue Card, current First Aid and/or CPR certificates and evidence of immunisations.
Applicants are advised to review the Queensland Health recommendations and NHMRC Australian Immunisation Handbook 9th edition guidelines on the following link: Immunisation Guidelines and Recommendations.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 1000 clinical midwifery practice hours are required over the eighteen (18) months of the program. Note: Additional hours will be required to meet midwifery 'continuity of care' experiences. Practical midwifery experience will be undertaken at one primary clinical maternity provider site. Prospective students need to be aware that additional or specified clinical practice experience may be required to meet program hours and registration requirements and this may involve relocation/travel and associated personal costs.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Registered Nurses; Midwives either returning to update their practice or seeking to reapply for midwifery registration need to submit the following documentation to the Head of Program when seeking Credit Transfer ‘exemptions' into the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery.
- Curriculum vitae (to support application)
- Certified copies of previous education or training certificates (to support application)
- Copies of current or previous registration practicing certificate (to support application)

Recognition of prior learning will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary study equivalent in content and depth to the CQUniversity program has been successfully completed. Prospective students should examine the course synopses in the CQUniversity handbook to determine the courses from which they may be able to claim exemption. SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS
There are a range of scholarships and/grants students may be eligible to apply for, including:
- The Australian College of Midwives
- Australian College of Nursing (ACN)
- Queensland Nurses Union (QNU)
- Council for Rural and Remote Nurses (CRANA)
- Chief Nurse Office in Queensland (CNO) and ask for the Midwifery Advisor regarding scholarship support
COMPUTING REQUIREMENTS
It is a requirement of enrolment in this program that students have access to the CQUniversity website. Students will be required to undertake various components of study in the program using email and the Internet.
It is strongly recommended that students have access to a broadband connection or higher to access online student resources that would include but not limited to, email, internet, video streaming, electronic assessment submission.

Additional Required Clinical Experience: Actual or Simulated
These experiences are provided within the clinical or simulated clinical environments.
Antenatal screening investigations and associated counselling
Referring, requesting and interpreting results of relevant laboratory tests
Administering and/or prescribing medicines for midwifery practice**
Actual or simulated midwifery emergencies, including maternal and neonatal resuscitation
Actual or simulated vaginal breech births
Actual or simulated episiotomy and perineal suturing
Perinatal mental health issues including recognition, response and referral
*Spontaneous vaginal births (if not achievable - 30 SVB + 20 assists at SVB) **Understanding that midwives cannot prescribe in all jurisdictions
