The purpose of the Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science is to provide the opportunity for those who already hold a degree from a recognised university to complete those core courses that will lead to an award equivalent to an accredited three year undergraduate program in psychology, primarily for the purpose of establishing their eligibility for entry into a fourth year degree or Graduate Diploma of Psychology. However, the degree serves also as an important qualification of competence and achievement in understanding human thought and behaviour for students wishing to seek employment in a variety of people-oriented vocations.

Students who complete the Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science will have broad knowledge of the discipline of psychology and its applications, including major theoretical perspectives within the discipline.  In addition, they will have knowledge of the range of core research areas that make up the scientific discipline of psychology and of the research methodologies and statistical techniques commonly used by researchers for information gathering and analysis.  They will be able to apply that knowledge when undertaking research activities in the core areas of scientific study.

To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 12 courses/72 units of credit as outlined in the course details.

Students shall:

• prior to enrolment in the award, hold a degree from a recognised university; and 
• obtain credit for a total of 72 units of credit (12 courses) including PSYC12047 and PSYC12048 from the course details in accordance with the following:

1.  at least 36 units of credit (6 courses) shall be at Level 3 and include PSYC13015, PSYC13017 and PSYC13020; and

2.  except with the approval of the Head of Program, all course prerequisites in psychology shall be satisfied.  The normal pattern of enrolment is 12 units of credit (2 courses) at first level, 24 units of credit (4 courses) at second level, and 36 units of credit (6 courses) at third level.

Failure to satisfy these requirements will result in non-eligibility to graduate.

Important enrolment notice:  For administrative reasons, Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science  students are unable to add courses in CQUcentral.  Once course selection is chosen, contact your Program Advisor to be enrolled in the course.
