CC07 - Master of Safety Science

Program Aim

The Master of Safety Science (with entry and exit points at Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma) is an applied science program that provides students with the option of specialising in Human Factors at the Graduate Diploma stage. Safety Science is based in psychology with cross-disciplinary influences from engineering, ergonomics, management and industrial design.

Throughout the program students will learn a sophisticated body of knowledge and develop key skills to allow them to lead safety in organisations. The program is targeted at mature students who are typically working full-time and looking to upgrade their skills. Thus, the program is designed to be taken part-time in distance mode and entry to the program can be either by undergraduate degree or through work experience in safety at upper or middle management levels. Graduates of the program will possess a sophisticated set of skills and knowledge that will allow them to become leaders in safety.

Program Structure
At the Masters stage students can take either the thesis pathway (Thesis 1, 2 & 3) or 3 electives. Students electing to specialise in Human Factors at the Graduate Diploma stage are required to take Human Factors Integration and Organisational Safety as core courses and conduct their research project or thesis in Human Factors.
