Program Aim
This program produces graduates capable of assessing building documentation for codes and standards compliance and inspecting staged works on all classes of buildings, as defined by the Building Code of Australia (BCA).
Students should note prerequisite requirements and course availability when formulating and nominating their study load for the year. Courses are offered annually. It is suggested that courses be studied as shown in the recommended study schedule. The loading may be varied to balance work and family commitments. If assistance is required, contact the Program Advisor. Students should actively seek employment in the building industry.
Prospective students should note that exemptions from courses within the program may be given where their previous study at AQF certificate 4 level or higher fully meets the learning outcomes of a course. Students should not enrol into a course where they are seeking an exemption.
Program Structure
Students must complete 30 courses/192 units of credit as outlined in the recommended study schedule.
The requirements for the two exit awards are as follows:
After completing two years (full-time equivalent) studies within the program, students may exit with or apply for an interim award of the CA34 Associate Degree of Building Surveying. The required courses are listed in the ‘Course Plans' section of this Handbook (as Years 1 and 2).
After completing three years (full-time equivalent) studies within the program, students may exit with or apply for an interim award of the CG90 Bachelor of Building Surveying and Inspection. The required courses are listed in the ‘Course Plans' section of this Handbook (as Years 1, 2 and 3).
Formal application must be made to the student advisor to exit with either of these programs.
