CF08 - Master of Letters

Program Aim

This program is for graduates looking to advance or diversify their careers or to fulfill a personal interest in film studies, history, literature, creative writing, literary and cultural studies, liberal studies, media studies and visual culture. The Master of Letters at CQUniversity provides a flexible program of postgraduate study.  It is an opportunity to engage in structured reading, research and writing on topics of your choice under the guidance of an individual supervisor.

Program Structure

To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 48 units of credit, comprising 4 coursework courses (24 units of credit), plus a dissertation (24 units of credit).

 

The assessment of each coursework course is based on 5 000 words. The length of the dissertation will be  15 000 to 20 000 words.

 

The MLitt is available in the following areas: film studies, history, literature, creative writing, literary and cultural studies, liberal studies, media studies and visual culture.

 

If you are completing the MLitt in two years you will study 2 coursework courses in each term in the first year and in the following year the dissertation, as follows:

  • coursework A and coursework B in Term 1 Year 1;
  • coursework C and coursework D in Term 2 Year 1;
  • dissertation A in term 1 year 2; and
  • dissertation B in term 2 year 2.

If you are completing in three years you will study 1 coursework course in each term in the first year and second year and in the last year the dissertation, as follows:

  • coursework A in term 1 year 1;
  • coursework B in term 2 year 1;
  • coursework C in term 1 year 2;
  • coursework D in term 2 year 2;
  • dissertation A in term 1 year 3; and 
  • dissertation B in term 2 year 3.
