CC10 - Diploma of Junior Secondary Teaching (Major)

Program Aim

The program offers a transition for qualified teachers to prepare them to teach junior secondary in particular high demand discipline areas.

The program responds to the transfer of Year 7 from primary to secondary education in Queensland.

The program offers five courses of content knowledge specialising in Mathematics and Science or English and History, and three courses in secondary pedagogy.

Program Structure

The Diploma of Junior Secondary Teaching (Major) is a Diploma qualification consisting of 8 courses, taught in English, which normally takes 2.5 years of part-time study.

The numbers of courses of a specific level will vary between disciplines.  The choices of courses within the majors are based on the need for students to gain the appropriate subject content knowledge (Mathematics, Science, English, History) for the Australian Curriculum areas at the Junior Secondary level. The levels of courses will also be different for each student depending on which subject they choose for their major elective.
Students entering the program will hold an approved teaching qualification.

The Diploma of Junior Secondary Teaching (Major) is located at Level 5 of the Australian Qualifications Framework.  Students are admitted to the program on the basis of possessing an existing teaching qualification and provisional or full teacher registration.
