An honours degree is a rigorous and scholarly program of further study, which develops a student's ability to generate new knowledge and distil new ideas out of existing knowledge. Candidates with honours are particularly sought after by employers and can choose from more interesting research and development positions because of their extra skills and proven abilities. It can also provide a pathway to research higher degree study. Completing an honours degree involves an additional full-time year of study (or the equivalent) following completion of a bachelor program.
This one-year full-time degree is an opportunity for the student to carry out an independent research project in Public Health. It will equip them with skills in planning, experimentation, interpretation and presentation of results. The professional skills acquired in their primary degree will be enhanced by advanced skills in literature retrieval, data analysis, statistical methods, ethical behaviour and research methodology. Graduates may be eligible to apply to continue with postgraduate study (e.g. Masters or Ph.D.).
