Prerequisite(s) qualifications, knowledge or experience A three year Bachelor degree from an Australian university or Professional (non-degree) qualifications or equivalent plus clear indication of relevant work experience and/or employment indicating a career track in accident investigation or Other relevant qualifications but working towards professional career development in accident investigation or related area, and who have had at least five years work experience   Students applying for entry via this alternative approach will need to provide evidence which shows the ability to: write reports demonstrating appropriate knowledge in the field; read and analyse academic literature and government policy texts; complete high level numeracy tasks applicable to workplace situations.   Note: Students applying for entry without a three year Bachelor degree from an Australian university will be assessed by the Head of Program.

Students who do not possess a three year Bachelor degree may be required to enrol in a university preparatory program, for example STEPS, before they commence (or concurrently with commencement of) their discipline studies. This is to ensure that students have appropriate tertiary study skills.

This program has compulsory residential components in some courses.  Residential dates for these courses are documented within the residential school timetable http://content.cqu.edu.au/HandbookAdmin/schools.jsp.   Generally, the residential schools for the AINV core courses will be held at the ‘Crash Lab'.

 

The ‘crash lab' contains real accident wreckage and other artefacts to give you hands on experience in a realistic accident environment and significantly enhance your learning experience. In year three of the bachelor degree, you will undertake a capstone investigation project where you will apply your learning from the program to a complex accident. You will be required to ‘investigate' the accident using the techniques and methods delivered in the program, establishing the causal factors involved and prepare a report of your findings, conclusions and recommendations.  Personal protective equipment and a ‘crash kit' will be required for learning sessions at the ‘crash lab' (see individual courses for requirements).

Credit transfer will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary studies undertaken equivalent in content and depth to the CQUniversity program have been successfully completed. Students should examine the course synopses in this handbook to determine the courses for which they may be eligible to claim exemption. You can apply for direct credit against CQUniversity courses, if equivalent tertiary level study has been completed. You must supply relevant documentation (study guides, course profiles, etc) to do this. Or, in some programs you can apply for electives outside of CQUniversity range of courses. If your study was undertaken more than 10 years old, you may not be eligible to apply for this as credit.

It is a requirement of enrolment in this program that students have access to the CQUniversity website. Students may be required to undertake various components of study in the program using email and the Internet.

 

It is strongly recommended that students have access to a broadband connection or higher to access online student resources that would include but not limited to, email, internet, video streaming, electronic assessment submission.
