Work-integrated learning consists of a total of 840 hours clinical placement in an off-campus health care setting and is an integral component of the nursing program. Work-integrated learning placements are organised as block placements; e.g. 10 x 8 hour shifts in Term 2 1^st year: 15 x 8 hour shifts Term 1 2^nd year; 20 x 8 hour shifts Term 2 2^nd year, 2 lots of 15 x 8 hour shifts Term 1 3^rd year and 30 x 8 hour shifts Term 2 3^rd year. Work integrated learning is arranged by the university and may occur in health care organisations throughout Australia where a service agreement is in place.

Work-integrated learning occurs in the following courses:

NURS11154 Foundations of Nursing Practice 2 (1 block of 15 x 8 hours shifts).

NURS12146 Person Centred Approach to Chronic Illness (1 block of 15 x 8 hours shifts).

NURS11156 Acute Nursing Management (1 block of 20 x 8 hours shifts).

NURS13126 Critical Care Nursing (1 block of 15 x 8 hours shifts).

NURS13129 Mental Health and Mental Health Nursing (1 block of 15 x 8 hours shifts).

NURS13119 Professional Nursing Practice (1 block of 30 x 8 hours shifts).

Before undertaking work-integrated learning students are required to provide the following:

• Signed Clinical Placement Agreement.
• Current National Police Check (not older than 3 years).
• Blue Card.
• If attending a clinical placement within a Queensland Health facility: completed Queensland Health student health professionals' clinical placement or field work orientation checklist (http://www.health.qld.gov.au/SOP/)
• Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
• Evidence of Immunisations as per the CQUniversity Policy for Immunisation of Student Nurses.

Domestic Students

There are no program pre-requisites however Senior English, Senior Science and Senior Mathematics are strongly recommended. Students without Senior English, Senior Science and Senior Mathematics are strongly recommended to undertake one of the following access programs:

• Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS)
• Tertiary Entry Program (TEP)

International Students

If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, South Africa or USA you are required to meet the English Language Prerequisite by:

• an academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) completed within the last 2 years (from the term you are applying to start) with a minimum achievement of 7 across all bands and overall; OR
• a secondary or university qualification which is not more than 5 years old (from the term you are applying for entry into) with a satisfactory level of achievement of at least 2 years in duration from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, South Africa or USA.

International students are required to attend an intensive one week orientation prior to commencing.

NOTE: International students need to be aware of the English Requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia that need to be demonstrated prior to registration. Please contact the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia for information on this requirement. http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/  

Recognition of prior learning: Course credit may be granted to students who are able to demonstrate appropriate prior learning or experience. The normal maximum amount of credit which may be granted to a prospective student enrolling into the nursing program is 72 credit points and is based on previously completed equivalent studies. Credit is normally only granted for courses and programs satisfactorily completed in the last 10 years at a recognised educational institution or to Enrolled Nurses. (Course credit is subject to accreditation and registration requirements.)

In cases of prospective students transferring from a pre-registration nursing program from a recognised educational Australian institution the maximum amount of credit which may be granted will be 96 credit points of the program.

It is a requirement of enrolment in this program that students have access to the CQUniversity website. Students may be required to undertake various components of study in the program using email and the Internet.

It is strongly recommended that students have access to a broadband connection or higher to access online student resources that would include but not limited to, email, internet, video streaming, electronic assessment submission.
