Entry Requirements | Applications can be registered nurses or/ registered midwives seeking to update their knowledge and skills.
Note: Students seeking a Return to Practice program would enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery (CG33) and apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) into the program (subject to specific Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) special requirements). |
Professional Accreditation | Please note: This program is currently subject to accreditation.
Please note: Specific criteria and education standards are required by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) in order to become registered and practice as a midwife in Australia.

Upon successful completion of the program, students make an application for registration as a midwife to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA). |
Residential School | There are compulsory 5-day residential schools (Mackay or Noosa) conducted prior to the commencement of each of the three (3) terms of study. See the Residential Schools for more information. |
Practicum/Work placement | A minimum of 1000 clinical midwifery practice hours are required over the eighteen (18) months of the program. Note: Additional hours will be required to meet midwifery 'continuity of care' experiences.
Practical midwifery experience will be undertaken at one primary clinical maternity provider site. Prospective students need to be aware that additional or specified clinical practice experience may be required to meet program hours and registration requirements and this may involve relocation/travel and associated personal costs.
