Creative Music Technologies (Noosa campus only) 

This unique degree is ideal for those seriously interested in developing industry relevant skills in music technology. Incorporating traditional live sound recording, this practical-based program also involves creating and performing original works. Committed to traditional music making, all of our creative music technologies students take courses in how to read and write music notation, alongside creating music with new audio technologies. The curriculum features an integrated approach to concepts of theory, linking each concept with practical experience. Creative music technology students have the opportunity to contribute to performances in a variety of settings including tours, festivals, concerts, and corporate functions. As these are delivered in industry settings, students will gain valuable performance experience relevant to their future career and/or interests.

Jazz & Popular Music (Rockhampton campus only)

The principal focus of the Jazz and Popular Music specialisation is on musical development through performance. In any given year, jazz and popular music students present performances in a variety of settings including tours, festivals, concerts, and corporate functions. As these are delivered in industry settings, students will gain valuable performance experience relevant to their future career and/or interests. The course has been designed to enable specialisations in performance (instrumental or vocal), or composition/arrangement. The curriculum features an integrated approach to concepts of theory, linking each concept with practical experience. Students will be involved in a number and variety of ensembles.

Music Studies (Flex only)

The music studies specialisation is designed for those wanting to study a general music curriculum.  Within this academically focussed specialisation students focus on the historical, theoretical and cultural contexts of Western music, including classical, jazz and contemporary popular music.  In addition to the core courses, the music studies specialisation contains sufficient elective space to allow students the flexibility of tailoring the program to meet their future career path.

Contemporary (Noosa campus only)

The principal focus of the Contemporary Music specialisation is on developing skills in music performance, music business and music technologies.  Students learn the stagecraft of performance as well as how to analyse, write, arrange, and record music.  The curriculum features an integrated approach to concepts of theory, linking concepts with practical experience.  Contemporary students have the opportunity to participate in performances presented in a variety of settings, including at concerts, festivals and university and community functions.
