Career Opportunities
The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery aims to provide registered nurses with the theoretical, practical and research knowledge required to be a competent and effective midwifery professional.
Emphasis throughout the program is on progressive development of a woman-centred approach to midwifery practice underpinned by evidence informed practice and collaborative partnerships founded in primary health care principles.
About Midwifery
The CQUniversity School of Nursing and Midwifery recognises that midwifery practice is ‘woman centred' and encompasses ‘being with' and ‘working with women' in empowering and emancipatory partnerships. These partnerships between women and midwives are self-determining; founded on evidence informed primary health care principles, which serve to empower and support decision-making by women and their families for the benefit of all in the community.
Midwifery practice being woman-centred recognises the existing and emerging relationships and influences within each woman's unique social, cultural and psychophysiological environment. Midwifery practice recognises and advocates that pregnancy, birth and parenting, whilst significant life events are largely normal healthy processes.
