Secondary Teaching Discipline Strands
Students are required to select two secondary teaching disciplines. Within the first teaching discipline, students must undertake and pass eight (8) courses. Within the second teaching discipline, students must undertake and pass six (6) courses.

Students enrolled prior to 2012 who had selected alternative discipline areas to that listed above, will be able to continue and complete their original disciplines.
Please note that the offerings of the courses listed within the discipline list are subject to change. You MUST refer to the most current edition of the online handbook for course availability and discuss your options with your Program and Course Adviser.
Residential Schools
Prior to the start of each term of study, a Residential School will be conducted on the Rockhampton campus with compulsory attendance expected at all sessions for students enrolled in this program in the distance education mode. The focus of each Residential School is dependent upon the courses on offer within that term. Each Residential School will provide students with the relevant tools to succeed within their term of study including assessment requirements and engagement in group activities to support their learning journey.
The focus for the second Residential School each year is on the preparation of students for their Embedded Professional Learning with a focus on such aspects as ethical practices, Duty of Care, and addressing the Professional Standards in their practicum courses.
Failure to attend the Residential School may result in a grade of Fail for each course enrolled.
The dates for the Residential Schools are published in the CQUniversity handbook. It is the responsibility of each student to:-
- ensure they are in attendance at each Residential School;
- organise their own transport to and from Rockhampton for the Residential School;
- organise their own accommodation in Rockhampton for the duration of the Residential School.
Generic skills
Graduating Bachelor of Learning Management (Secondary and VET) students will be able to:
- develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships with learners;
- establish and maintain effective networks and partnerships to enhance teaching and learning;
- demonstrate commitment to professional practice;
- construct and manage inclusive and supportive learning environments;
- reflect critically on educational practice to effect informed change;

- demonstrate a mastery of specific content knowledge;
- demonstrate the flexibility to manage challenging learning within existing and emerging learning communities;
- integrate information and communication technologies to enhance learning; and
- make a discerning use of interactive, multi-media technologies to ensure learning outcomes.

Credit for Certificate III Study
Students who have completed a Certificate III and associated apprenticeship may be eligible for up to two courses credit into the discipline strands of Hospitality and Manual Arts. To be eligible, students must:-
- Have successfully completed a Certificate III trade qualification in an area relevant to schooling needs; and
- Have experience in the form of 5 years work in the relevant trade area; and
- Provide certified copies of all documentation relating to the trade qualification and work experience.
