Program Aim
Nursing offers diverse people-centred career opportunities in a challenging industry that continues to change rapidly. The broad nature of nursing allows opportunities for employment and specialisation in areas as varied as acute hospital services, community health services, mental health services, residential care services, indigenous health services, and remote and rural health services.
Nursing practice is focused on working in partnership with individuals, groups and communities to enhance health and wellness and assisting clients to effectively manage health issues. On completion of the Bachelor of Nursing, the graduate is eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia which allows the nurse to work throughout Australia.
1st year - In Year 1 of the program students focus on developing foundation skills and knowledge required for nursing practice.
2nd year - In Year 2 of the program students are introduced to abnormal health patterns and the nursing care required to manage clients with these.
3rd year - Year 3 of the program will focuses on consolidating knowledge in clinical practice situations and includes a 6 week block placement in the final term of study.
Program Structure
To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 144 units of credit consisting of 138 units of credit from core courses and 6 units of credit from an elective approved by the Program Coordinator OR 132 units of credit plus 12 units from the mental health elective stream. The mental health elective stream consists of NURS12150 Recovery Approach in Mental Health and NURS13123 Mental Health Nursing in Context.
