Career Opportunities
As a professional engineer you can be a driver of change in society and be not only responsible for the technological change, but also the impact it has on communities, society and the environment in general. Professional engineers work with people, they listen, then set about solving problems for people and communities.
Bachelor of Engineering graduates having specialised in civil engineering, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering, find employment in a range of industries. These encompass national and international public and private industry sectors, including the energy, transportation, manufacturing, process, construction, mining and education industries.
Civil engineers are typically involved in planning design and maintenance of physical infrastructure systems including the construction of buildings and bridges, transport and water resource systems, sewage and industrial waste systems, harbours and railways.
Mechanical engineers are typically involved in planning, design, installation, maintenance and operation of machines, thermodynamic and combustion systems, fluid systems, materials handling systems, manufacturing equipment and process plant. .
Electrical engineers typically specialise in systems design, development and maintenance of systems associated with electrical power and energy including electricity generation and distribution, telecommunications, instrumentation and control, microprocessors and electronics.
CQUniversity engineering graduates are highly sought by all industry sectors with job offers often made even before students complete their studies.
About Engineering
As a Bachelor of Engineering student you will acquire, develop and demonstrate technical engineering knowledge and skills in civil, electrical and electronics or mechanical engineering, integrating problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills. This CQUniversity engineering program incorporates ‘Project Based Learning’, providing your learning in context, in formal and informal learning environments such as workshops, classes and project studios. Teamwork and problem solving skills are learned alongside the technical content in an exciting real-world engineering environment.
The program consists of a common first year after which students select their study discipline in either civil, electrical or mechanical engineering. The first and second years of the Bachelor of Engineering program are offered at Gladstone, Mackay and Rockhampton campuses. The advanced years (Years 3 and 4) of the program are currently only available at Rockhampton. However, the entire program is available in distance education mode.
