The program is a 4 year program of 2 terms per year that includes a range of core social work courses and a number of courses from cognate disciplines such as psychology, sociology and Indigenous studies. There are 2 fieldwork practicum that are undertaken at the beginning of the third year of the program (12 weeks equivalent full time work) and the final term of the fourth year (16 weeks equivalent full time work). The practicum are undertaken in the workplace, are unpaid and supervised by a qualified social worker. There are 4 courses per semester and in each term (excluding the fieldwork practicum semesters) and there is a compulsory on campus residential school attached to one core social work course in each term.

All students entering the program enrol in the BSW. Those who exit early will (providing all relevant courses have been satisfactorily completed) be eligible for an Associate Degree (Human Services) at the second year exit point or a Bachelor of Human Services at the third year exit point. These exiting students will be eligible for AIWCW accreditation if they complete the equivalent of 14 weeks fieldwork practicum in addition to their course work studies and may re-apply to complete the BSW at a later date if desired. The AIWCW accreditation will enable graduates to work as qualified human services or community services workers in the industry. All students progressing successfully through the Bachelor of Social Work degree program will be eligible for interim awards of an Associate Degree Community Welfare at the two year completion point and a Bachelor of Community Welfare at the three year completion point.
