Program requirements
Students are required to hold a Blue Card and a current First Aid course certificate from an organisation recognised by the Australian Resuscitation Council by the end of Term 1 Year 1. Evidence of Hepatitis B vaccination is required before commencing Term 2 in Year 1.

It is a requirement of enrolment in this program that students have access to the CQU website. Students will be expected to undertake various components of study in the degree using email, WebCT and the Internet.  Recommended web browsers are: Internet Explorer 5.0 or above or Netscape 4.5 or 4.7 and above (not version 6.0).

Application for credit transfer
Credit transfer will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary studies equivalent in content and depth to the CQU program have been successfully completed. Students should examine the course synopses in this handbook to determine the courses for which they may be eligible to claim exemption. Application for credit transfers will be assessed on a case-by-case basis once the applicant has been advised by CQU or QTAC of their success in obtaining a place in the nursing program.

Enrolled nurse entry

The flexibility of this program will suit enrolled nurses with recognition of prior learning assessed on an individual basis.

  • Enrolled nurses who have completed a Diploma of Nursing Care (Pre-enrolment) CNN92 through Queensland TAFE will receive exemption for up to 8 courses upon receipt of supporting documentation.
  • Credit exemptions for enrolled nurses with Hospital Certificates or from other Australian states will be assessed on an individual basis. Applications for credit exemption will need to be supported by detailed documentation and current enrolled nursing registration.

International Students
Pre-registration international students will be required to complete 24 courses (144 units of credit) in order to satisfy the requirements of the degree. Post-registration international students who are registered nurses in their home country may be awarded advanced standing equivalent of up to the first two years of this degree. International applications will be assessed individually and a maximum of two years advanced standing may be granted towards a CQU Bachelor of Nursing award.

Note: international students are required to attend Orientation Week prior to commencement of Term 1.

International applicants who request advanced standing will be required to:

  • hold a current general nurse registration certificate that indicates their authority to practice as a registered nurse; and
  • submit certified results of the pre-registration program studied in their home country and any post-registration qualifications.

International students receiving the maximum exemptions would:

EITHER:

  • Complete 7 courses externally in their own country. However, students must attend Rockhampton campus to study NURS13115 Professional Practice.

OR:

  • The program can be studied internally on the Rockhampton campus only for post-registration international students.

International students granted maximum advanced standing of 2 years (96 units of credit) will require:

  • IELTS 6.5 with no band score lower than 6.0 for entry to the program, together with a plan to achieve IELTS 7.0 by graduation. Additional English language classes will be required to enable students to reach an IELTS of 7.0. These can be arranged through the CQU Language Centre.

Further, the only acceptable English qualification will be the IELTS test, and no other equivalency of English proficiency will be accepted for this program, for all levels of entry. All international graduates must have an IELTS of 7 to obtain registration with the Queensland Nursing Council.
