CU61 - Graduate Certificate in Science (Specialisation)

Program Aim

The primary aim of this program is to provide graduate teachers who presently do not have the necessary content knowledge in the sciences to teach areas within this discipline.  Graduates of this program will have successfully completed the required numbers of courses to satisfy competency levels to teach science in the middle and/or senior years in Queensland.  The program is also suitable for primary teachers who wish to improve their understanding of the science curriculum.

Persons intending to teach in other states should ensure that the program satisfies the requirements for the relevant authority.

Program Structure

The program model is designed to allow teachers to prepare themselves to teach physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology as new discipline areas.  Presently available courses have been packaged to provide depth of content and knowledge in the following enabling sciences:

  • chemical sciences;
  • biological sciences; and
  • physical sciences and mathematical sciences.

To satisfy the requirements of the award students must complete 4 courses in a specialisation.  Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate will meet competency requirements for teaching up to year 10.
