Entry requirements

  • a three year bachelor degree from an Australian university.

Consideration may also be given on an individual basis to applicants with:

  • professional OHS (non-degree) qualifications or eqivalent and who have had at least five years work experience at a middle or higher management level; or
  • other relevant qualifications but working towards professional OHS career development . 

Students applying for entry via this alternative approach will need to provide and show the ability to:

  • write high level report writng;
  • read and analyse academic literature, government policy texts and create detailed reports; and
  • complete high level numeracy tasks applicable to workplace situations.

Note: Students applying for entry without a three year bachelor degree from an Australian university will be assessed by the Program Coordinator for the program.

Application for credit transfer

Credit transfer will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary studies equivalent in content and depth to the CQU program has been successfully completed.  Students should examine the course synopses in this handbook to determine the courses for which they may be eligible to claim exemption.  For more information contact the program administrator.

 

Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Prior 2006 entry only)

If for some reason a student is unable to complete the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety they can exit with a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (CU88).  To be eligible you must have successfully completed the following courses: OCHS20018, OCHS20019, OCHS20020 and OCHS20021 . Students must satisfy the normal prerequisites that apply to their courses.  There is no entry to this program. Students must enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety to be eligible to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.


Note: Students entering with a Graduate Certificate in OHS are not eligible for the WHSO certificate unless they complete OCHS20022 Issues in Workplace Health & Safety.

 

Residential School

The compulsory residential school runs over a two week period.

 

There is an integrated residential school for the following courses,OCHS20029, OCHS20030, OCHS20032 and OCHS20022.

 

Students must have completed OCHS20029 and OCHS20030 with a grade of PO (Practicum Outstanding) and be currently enrolled in or obtained a grade of PO for OCHS20032 to be eligible to attend the two week residential school.

 

OCHS20022 is a term 3 course, but students must enrol before the residential school to obtain the required study materials and prepare for the second week of residential school.

Computing requirements

It is a requirement of enrolment in this program that students have access to the CQU website via the Internet.  Students will be expected to undertake various components of study in the degree using email, Blackboard and the Internet. Recommended web browsers are: Internet Explorer 5.0 or above or Netscape 4.5 or 4.7 and above (not version 6.0).
