CU87 - Graduate Diploma of Psychology

Program Aim

The Graduate Diploma of Psychology is designed for persons who already hold a degree from a recognised university to undertake in full, or complete, an accredited three year undergraduate program in psychology for the purpose of establishing their eligibility for entry into a fourth year degree or postgraduate diploma program in psychology.

 

Students who complete the Graduate Diploma will have broad knowledge of the discipline of psychology and its applications, including major theoretical perspectives within the discipline.  In addition, they will have knowledge of the range of core research areas that make up the scientific discipline of psychology and of the research methodologies and statistical techniques commonly used by researchers for information gathering and analysis.  They will be able to apply that knowledge when undertaking research activities in the core areas of scientific study.

Program Structure

To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 12 courses or 72 units of credit as outlined in the course details.

 

Students shall:

  • prior to enrolment in the award, hold a degree from a recognised university; and 
  • obtain credit for a total of 72 units of credit (12 courses) including PSYC12047 and PSYC12048 from the course details in accordance with the following:

1.  at least 36 units of credit (6 courses) shall be at Level 3 and include PSYC13015 Advanced Methods in Psychology; and

2.  except with the approval of the Head of School, all course prerequisites in psychology shall be satisfied.  The normal pattern of enrolment is 12 units of credit (2 courses) at first level, 24 units of credit (4 courses) at second level, and 36 units of credit (6 courses) at third level.

Failure to satisfy these requirements will result in non-eligibility to graduate.

 

Important enrolment notice:  For administrative reasons, Graduate Diploma of Psychology students are unable to add courses on e.rolment.  Once course selection is chosen, contact the Student Service Line on email prerolment@cqu.edu.au or phone 1300 550 900 to have the courses registered.
