CU20 - Bachelor of Social Work

Program Aim

Social Work and Welfare Studies offers a strong, well-established and integrated program in Social Work that is professionally accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers.  The program is delivered through a combination of flexible approaches to teaching and learning which include supported online learning environments, problem-based teaching, two compulsory on-campus residential schools per year and supervised fieldwork placements. The program's flexibility appeals to students for whom a traditional, onsite program is less preferred or possible.  The philosophies of problem-based and experiential learning, which promote life-long and self-managed learning, underpin the program as well as values associated with social justice, empowerment, appreciation of diversity and strong ethical practice.  Students can elect to undertake some specialized study in domains of health and ageing, child protection or generic social work practice. The Bachelor of Social Work program equips graduates to work effectively in many settings by providing them with strong analytical skills, sound knowledge of society, policy and social issues, and a range of advanced and creative skills relevant to working with individuals, families, communities and human service agencies.  Demand for social workers within Australian human services continues to grow and CQU graduates are very well regarded within the human services sector.

Program Structure

To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 28 courses/192 units of credit as outlined.
