CU29 - Bachelor of Performing Arts

Program Aim

The Bachelor of Performing Arts program aims to prepare graduates who are competent to work in a variety of settings within the Arts industry. The program aims, through an integrated approach to learning, to provide students with a firm grounding across a broad range of professional areas, with expertise in at least one of the areas of study and a general appreciation and working knowledge of the other facets of the arts involved in the program. Through individual and group presentations students are able to work collaboratively with other arts professionals. Students gain 'real life' experience through a series of workshops with professionals and professional companies as well as two weeks placement or project work in each of the final two years of their study.

 

Students have acquired professional experience while engaging with - Dance North; Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games; Really Useful Company; Expressions Dance Company; Queensland Performing Arts Centre; Beef Week 2003 and 2006; Rockhampton Tourism and Business Information; Curragh Mines; Rockhampton Branch of the Labor Party; Central Queensland University Foundation; Youth Week Activities; Capricorn School of Dancing; CQU Multicultural Fair and Open Day; Alliance Francaise; Emmaus College; Rockhampton State High School; Yeppoon State High School; Rockhampton Venues and Events; Rockhampton Eisteddford Association; Dreamtime Cultural Centre; Yeppoon Pineapple Festival; Village Arts Festival; Festival of the Winds; Woodford Folk Festival; Theatre Arts Mackay; Emerald Community - Workshops and Performances; Priority Country Area Program; Gin Gin State High School.

Program Structure

To satisfy the requirements of the award students must complete 24 courses/144 units of credit as outlined.

The schedule is designed for full-time students who usually enrol in 4 courses per term (24 units of credit). Part-time students should, therefore, modify the schedule to meet their own needs - observing all pre and co-requisite requirements. Students may 'fast track' their study by undertaking specific courses which may be offered in Term 3. Courses such as Project or Placement could be arranged in discussion with the Course Coordinator to be undertaken in this way.
