CG21 - Bachelor of Engineering Technology

Program Aim

On successful completion of a CQU Bachelor of Engineering Technology program graduates should have an:

  • ability to apply knowledge of basic science and engineering fundamentals;
  • ability to communicate effectively, not only with others in engineering practice but also with the community at large;
  • in-depth technical competence in one engineering discipline;
  • ability to undertake problem identification and formulation, and to identify, apply and adapt appropriate procedures,  techniques and resources in their resolution;
  • in-depth knowledge and understanding of appropriate technology and its applications and evolution in equipment, installation  and system design and operation;
  • ability to function effectively as an individual and in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, with the capacity to be a leader or manager as well as an effective team member;
  • understanding of the social, cultural, global and environmental responsibilities of the engineering  technologist and the need for sustainable development;
  • understanding of the principles of sustainable design and development;
  • understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities and commitment to them; and
  • expectation of the need to undertake lifelong learning and the capacity to do so.
Program Structure

This program is aimed at the education of Engineering Technologists in one of eight specialisations:

  • Civil
    • Structural
    • Municipal / Transportation
  • Mechanical
    • Process
    • Energy
    • Design
  • Electrical
    • Electronics and Communication
    • Electrical Power and Machines
    • Control and Instrumentation

All students (except students entering with advanced standing) entering the program will undertake a common first two years (assuming progression at a part-time rate). These first two years of the program may be studied internally or externally.  The later years may be studied externally with some courses also available internally (students should check individual course availability).
