Career Opportunities
This program is for registered nurses looking to diversify into midwifery. Midwives are currently in demand nationally and overseas, both in the public and private health systems and in midwifery related areas such as family planning clinics, sexually transmitted disease clinics and women's health centres.
About Midwifery
The aim of the Midwifery program is to prepare competent and innovative midwives to function in a rapidly changing health care system. Students need a clear understanding of the social and philosophical context of health care and of contemporary thinking to conceptualise practices and trends in health care accurately and to initiate positive change on these concepts. Graduates will be midwives who are aware of the epistemological, multicultural, socio-psychological, technological and researchable issues, which affect their discipline. This awareness will be directed to continual evaluation and creative innovation to achieve ongoing development of effective health care services and management.
