Program Aim

The aim of the Graduate Diploma of Occupational Health & Safety is to prepare professionals working in industry and community services in advanced aspects of occupational health & safety.

On completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • identify and anticipate health and safety hazards in the workplace and recommend a systematic approach for their assessment and control;
  • utilise knowledge from specialised disciplines in the application of effective prevention and control programs in the workplace;
  • demonstrate effective consultation and communication processes in ways which make appropriate use of managerial and industrial frameworks and the social context of the workplace;
  • analyse the implications of political, economic, sociological and technological trends on workplace health and safety practices;
  • promote a safe and healthy workforce through provision of education and information programs.
Program Structure

All students enrolled in CF20 Graduate Diploma of OHS prior to Term 1, 2006 will still need to complete the seven courses as required by the 2005 (Version 2)  program structure to ensure that they meet the 48 credit point requirement for the program.  Students must complete the current course 'Statistics & Epidemiology' in the 2006 offering or they will need to find an alternative equivalent course in this institution or on a cross institutional basis after 2006. Prior 2006 students must complete the 6 credit point version of the core discipline courses by the end of 2007 or complete the 8 credit point version of the course (at the higher price*) after that time. See Courses for more details.
