COMM12030 Desktop Publishing

This course is an introduction to the graphic-arts industry and the components of electronic document production. Students will obtain practical skills using Adobe InDesign to integrate text and graphics into layouts ready for printing. Fundamental design principles are explored in an examination of Rolling Stone magazine, and other layout examples. Students will gain an understanding of how to communicate effectively, and will use learned guidelines in the documents they create.

To study this course it is essential that you have access to a computer (PC or Macintosh) and the software, Adobe InDesign 2 (not version 1). The computer needs to be connected to a printer (colour or black and white); a CD-ROM drive; and a disk drive, such as floppy or zip. It is also essential to have access to the Internet as this is an online course.
