Graduation

Role of Graduation Section

The Graduation Section of Student Administration is responsible for the planning, preparation, coordination and staging of the University’s graduation ceremonies and the administration of the graduation of students.

There are three, ten-working-day, graduation evaluation periods (GEPs) per year, during which University staff assess eligibility for graduation. The GEPs commence on the first working day after the official Certification of Results date for each term.

All assessment must be finalised prior to the Certification of Results date for the term that is recorded as the expected graduation term (EGT).

Following each GEP, graduates will be notified of their eligibility and provided with information about obtaining graduation documents and dates, times and locations of graduation ceremonies.

Student Responsibilities

Students must be aware that it is their responsibility to:

Addresses will be downloaded from e.rolment on the first working day after each GEP. After this date, students must ALSO advise the Graduation Section of any change of address. CQU does not accept responsibility for any official communication that fails to reach a student who has not followed the above procedure.

Students who do not correctly maintain their EGT information on e.rolment may not be identified as eligible to graduate in that term’s graduation evaluation period.

Change of Name

Students who wish to change their name details on the University’s records must write to the Manager, Student Records, providing a specimen of their former and current signatures and supporting certified documents.

Where changes are made after each term’s Certification of Results date, students must ALSO advise the Graduation Section of this change. Testamurs will be printed according to the University’s Student Records System and a fee will apply for any reprints required for name changes.

Where a name change occurs after the presentation/collection of a testamur, this change may not be printed onto the testamur.

Graduation Ceremonies

Graduation ceremonies are held in various locations each year and attendance is optional. The Schedule of Graduation Ceremonies can be found on CQU’s website, together with relevant deadlines for attendance confirmation. CQU does not guarantee that attendance at a ceremony will be permitted if these deadlines are not adhered to.

Graduation Rules

Graduates will only be permitted to attend a graduation ceremony that occurs on a date after the end of the relevant GEP.

Once testamurs have been released, graduates may not attend a subsequent graduation ceremony.

Workplace Health and Safety

Central Queensland University’s policy aims to achieve the optimum attainable level of workplace health and safety as far as is practicable for all staff, students and other persons throughout all areas of its activities.

It is the responsibility of all CQU personnel to ensure the implementation of safety systems appropriate to their delegated operational authority.

It is the responsibility of supervisory staff at every level to ensure that safe working procedures are clearly understood and consistently observed. Supervisors shall also ensure that all plant and equipment in use is in safe working order and workplace conditions are maintained at a high standard.

All members of CQU including students have an obligation for their personal welfare and the welfare of their fellows. To meet this commitment, each person must follow safe working procedures at all times, and take all reasonable care to prevent personal injury or injury to others and damage to plant and equipment.

CQU will achieve this by careful attention to all aspects of workplace health and safety in accordance with the Queensland Workplace Health & Safety Act 1995, the Workplace Health & Safety Regulation 1997 & (Misc) Regulations 1995 and the relevant Codes of Practice.

This shall include:

In support of this policy, CQU has created Health and Safety Committees, appointed Health & Safety Officers and established the necessary systems.

Participation of and consultation with staff and students takes place through the University Health & Safety Committees. A Health and Safety Unit, staffed with qualified personnel, acts as the University’s management arm to provide guidelines on, and training in, safe work practices and control of hazards in the workplace.

The University is conscious of its responsibilities and seeks cooperation and commitment from all staff and students to create a workplace environment aimed at accident prevention and health promotion. The University has adopted a policy of NO SMOKING within its buildings. Copies of the policies and guidelines on various issues such as First Aid, Fire Evacuation, HIV, Hepatitis B & C, etc. can be obtained from the University faculties, divisions and the Health & Safety Unit.

The University’s Procedures for Reporting Accidents and Hazards are available from the Health & Safety Unit.

In case of need, students are encouraged to contact Health & Safety workers or representatives in their faculties. Contact 07 4930 6418, or visit the website on http://www.cqu.edu.au/health_safety/home.htm.
