Examines social structures and social processes within rural regions of the economically advanced societies, with particular reference to Australia. Topics include the meaning of rurality, rural restructuring in the global system, rural social conditions, the sociology of contemporary agriculture, and ecological and social sustainability. The course will be of special interest to students planning to live and work in regional Australia.
